Huck
House’s message to kids is that each and
every one of them have individualized
value and talent. We want them to find
their place in the world, letting them
know that it’s okay to be different. Be
a voice amongst your peers and stand up
for what you believe in even if its not
what the crowd is saying. Know who you
are, be conscious of how you fit into
the bigger picture. We encourage youth
to be empowered to become free from
mainstream concepts, feeling comfortable
to express their gut feelings and
letting the world know them as they are
instead of as they think they should be
known. We try to not only educate about
where to find help if you run away but
to address every layer/ issue that could
be the cause of why a youth would want
to run away.
The
truth is… kids running away is REAL, and
for the kids who don’t actually leave
their homes, many of them are living
with pains and problems and not talking
about it. We want kids to know that a
part of speaking up is also about being
able to communicate with adults and
letting them know when they or one of
their peers need help.
Throughout the year, we hold different
events that we use to diffuse this
message and are always looking for
volunteers to help. The next event
opportunity to volunteer is fast
approaching. We are having a teen lock
in on Friday Nov. 7th, 2008.
If you are a teen and interested in
attending this event, the flyer and

November is National Runaway Prevention Month
and to bring awareness to the many issues that
teenagers often face, Huck House is asking for
your support! We have thousands of FREE,
green light bulbs that we are asking Columbus
residents, businesses, churches, schools, etc.
to place in their porch lights to simply say
that you care about teens and their safety!
Showing your support is as easy as flipping a
switch!
To obtain a lightbulb, contact Kyra Crockett
Hodge @ 614.298.4104 or via email,
kcrockett@huck-house.org.
Other ways to
help are:
1. Get your
neighbors to light their porches green!
2. Tell your family members, friends,
co-workers, etc. about the project and ask them
to light their porch green with you!
3. Help with distribution and labeling of
the bulbs.

Month, visit

In 2004, when we started our Family Counseling
Services, we knew we had one small problem to
overcome: where would we put the therapists?
That question began the first expansion of our
property since the 1993 purchase of the
Training Center.
Three months ago, we moved into our new Family
Counseling Center. We now have three counselors
to do more work for our community. This also
made more space available to our youth in the
crisis shelter. We added a homework room and
recreational space. The main goal is that we
are continuing to improve Huck House to help
Columbus youth and families.
Special thanks to CB Richard Ellis, Construction
Division. Their gift of project management
services has helped us realize our vision of a
reliable and affordable space for our services.
